While scouring the internet a few years ago for a UK based knitwear manufacturer, Google directed me towards Make it British. Kate Hills is the founder and driving force behind the site which was established in 2011 as an online directory, championing some of the very best in UK manufacturers and brands.
Kate has since established an annual trade show called Make it British Live! which is held in London. Make it British Live! is the only 100% British sourcing trade show in the UK, which brings together and showcases the very best in British-made brands and manufacturers under one roof.
This year the event will be held at the Business Design Center, London on May 29th & 30th 2019. Matt and I will be there showing our Riachi Studio Cashmere collection at Stand VG42 and we would love to have the chance to meet you and share our sumptuous cashmere with you. We have been so lucky with the support we have had from Kate Hills this far on our brand journey and it’s a real honour to be showing at the trade show this year. It may also be the perfect opportunity for you to visit the trade show if you are interested in discovering British manufacturers and British made brands from the fashion, textile and homewares sectors. There will also be a full agenda of incredibly interesting seminars across the two day event, with some of the most influential people within the industry. It is definitely not an event to be missed and you can find free tickets to attend the event by following this link here.
As some of you may already know, Matt and I are currently based in Paris, however our fully fashioned knitwear is produced by the very best in Scottish manufacture and expertise. Since studying Fashion Design in the Scottish Borders, I experienced the expertise of the textiles/knitting industry first hand and also the decline of that highly skilled industry and the profound effect it had on the surrounding community. After establishing this blog, through which I primarily showcased independent British brands, I believed in wholeheartedly supporting the UK manufacturing industry through more conscious buying and setting up a brand that was Made in Scotland – which is how Riachi Studio Cashmere came to be. In the coming weeks you will be able to hear our recent podcast interview with Kate Hills discussing our brand story a little bit further.
