THE STUDIO

Born from a desire to create, a desire to collaborate, a desire to express and be and to define that which one “is”, RIACHI STUDIO has evolved within the Parisian locale by Scottish-Lebanese designer Natalie Riachi and her international team of creatives.

The first collection has been inspired by that initial fool’s energy: the chaotic unbridled power of creation, expression and passion, and it has slowly been shaped and guided into hand-designed, digitally patterned jersey fabric, cut and sewn into concentrated garments of collaboration’s realised dreams.

The same energy was driven into the photoshoot. Take a handful of creatives, put them into a room with camera equipment, make-up and hairspray and a good dose of “why don’t we…” ambiguity and shake it all around. Radical approaches to image making and style taking abound — real film was used, Photoshop wasn’t. The frowns, winks, smiles, frayed hems, loose threads and ruffles stayed. We wanted to capture and revel in the earnestness of artful creation.

Radical.

[“You want to be specific? So let’s be specific!”, I said to Natalie Riachi, Scottish fashion designer, when she asked me to photograph her first collection. I did it in a, for today’s habits, radical way: I shot eighteen looks on eighteen rolls of film and took one more photo on a different roll. I entirely reused the contact sheet as it was and the blown up extra shot to create a double page. 100% of the images were used and none was “bad”. Ms Riachi was quite stunned.

The film frames are original and suggest credibility, the contact sheets let the eyes travel and, just to mention another point, postproduction was almost inexistent.]
